You might want to handle the move yourself. This is a mistake. This is not a parent thing. It is a family thing and everyone should be involved. Every bit helps, so have kids pack their toys and such stuff.

Turning to actual packing, the first thing to do is build your boxes. To avoid problems, make sure to tape the bottom in both directions so there is plenty of support. Then pack heavy stuff on the bottom followed by lighter items on top.

Now for the really hard part. All hail the number 9. Why? It shall be your guiding light when evaluating clutter. If you have not used something in 9 months, it needs to be thrown out in the garbage. It takes discipline, but is a smart move.

No rule is absolute. Pictures of your youth and such can stay. Magazines from seven years ago, however, need to be put to rest. This may be painful, but at least you do not have to haul them on the move to the new home.
